One To Watch For: Unspeakable: The Tulsa Race Massacre

Unspeakable, written by Carole Boston Weatherford and illustrated by Floyd Cooper traces the rise and destruction of the Tulsa Greenwood District, also known as Black Wall Street.  Weatherford's lyrical style will allow readers to grasp the consequences of the destruction and harm that so many black people suffered during this event.  Cooper's moving illustrations provide images that bring across the impact of the events to readers in a developmentally appropriate style.

Recommended for grades 2 and up.
